I have been an artist all my life. Moving to a city of high level art revealed to me that art was so much more than paint on canvas to hang on a wall. It went way beyond the borders of a canvas or even the walls on which it hung. It was the art of creating a life that made sense . . . alive, passionate, expressive. I learned that I am many artists and most of all a word artist. On fire with letters and phrases that arrange daily and look back at me . . . like a friend who is telling the truth. Each morning, first light begins to glow out my courtyard windows and I merely show up and meditate and so begins the day. From this place, poems find me, asking me to bear witness. My hands are guided with ease, the only effort required is trusting that it can be this easy.

Author Biography

Ilan lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, alive with the true spirit of adventure. With words, art, music, photography, ideas, and travel in his toolkit, Ilan has turned numerous possibilities into reality. Sometimes this has looked like a real job with Willy Wonka or 7UP-The Uncola and sometimes it has looked like guiding mountain trips in the Swiss Alps, working in children's summer camps, or selling over 20 million greeting seed cards from his Oregon-based greeting card company. He now delivers inspiring speeches and drumming/storytelling programs for conferences and events and creates Advice from a Tree and other Advice from Nature products, which his Colorado company distributes to national parks and stores around North America. Ilan has overflowing gratitude to people and the Earth, and in celebration he has planted nearly 100,000 trees to repay the earth in kind for her generosity.
