Author Biography
Jasira Monique, originally named Monique McDowell was born and raised in West Palm Beach, Florida. She is a spoken word poet, author, songwriter, plus size model and rising entrepreneur that graduated from Howard University with a B.B.A. in International Business. Her first published book, Bruised Kisses: Affliction vs. Affection, A Collection of Poems was released in April 2009 by Publish America. Bruised Kisses has been featured on local news and radio shows such as WXEL South Florida Artsview, Channel 9 News in Denver and various online publications. Jasira Monique is an active volunteer and advocate for youth and has launched the iLive Campaign, www.iLiveCampaign.org and promotes mental health awareness and suicide prevention. A portion of proceeds from Woman on the Move will help mental health organizations and affected families in need.
