We all know that words can be used to hurt or used to heal. I have witnessed words that forever scared a child all the way into adulthood or transformed thinking for an entire lifetime that affected multiple generations. I recently read "The word "no" is heard with great frequency in our lives. There are signs all over our landscape with messages that read "no smoking", " no parking" or "no skateboards". The word "no" is just a fact of life for us all." I was not raised to accept no. My follow-up was "Why Not". My mother took the time to explain but sometimes the answer would be "Life is not fair".
