The Salish Sea is a fantastic place with incredible life and much to see. You can dive into the same site twice a day for a week and see something different and unique each time. It's one of the main reasons I love to dive here so much. I have yet to find the diversity of life in many other places. When you lead a class or dive, you provide a site briefing. This includes safety, entry and exit procedures, emergency activities, and a site overview. An important part of this is to talk about the possible marine life you may encounter. I realized that I didn't have a visual reference for divers. I often described things and wasn't sure I would do them justice. As you can imagine, I can't tell you what something is once we descend. The most I can do is shine a light around it. I was discussing this with a good friend. We realized that a guidebook would be a unique approach for any divemaster or instructor to show, especially to new divers, the common critters they would encounter. This is not an exhaustive identification book, but I think it contains the residents I regularly see.
