This is a book of fiction with foundations in the past, tracing how people of hope, through four generations and across three continents, follow threads of dreams and ambitions to where destiny leads them. Their loves, passions, bravery and endurance guide their way. Roots of this story lie in factual Australian history.

On the death of her mother, a 17-year-old girl, Nonie, wonders what she will do. The tenth child of her Irish parents who had migrated to Australia in 1877, she feels continuing affinity with her mother, and on her own death 50 years later, her only daughter has similar feelings, a strange sense of continuation of one person.

In another place, Joel, a young Aboriginal boy bent on playing football, is dissatisfied with his life and determines to take every step forward through school and university. He becomes a lawyer and escapes the city to fulfil his ambitions for his people in a more relevant area. His role model is his Uncle Charlie.

Meanwhile, a South American man, Alvaro, has settled in Australia with an Australian wife and two children, and returns from a recent visit to his homeland disturbed by his loves and loyalties in his present life and the past. His wife seeks to help him resolve his uncertainties.

By chance, these assorted characters meet up and experience harmony through their meeting.
