Commander Thomas B. Buell, USN was a professor at West Point Military Academy and an award-winning naval historian who wrote The Warrior Generals: Combat Leadership in the Civil War, The Quiet Warrior: A Biography of Admiral Raymond A. Spruance, and Master of Seapower: A Biography of Fleet Admiral Ernest J. King.
