Dr. James Lavoisier was a product of the Great Atchafalaya, the torpid waters of the black water swamps and the Mississippi. But for the love of his mother, James would have been set adrift to live life as a Delta farmer, forsaking his heritage as a descendant of the Noblesse Société, the pure lineage of French Nobility who had fled France after the defeat of Napoleon. James would struggle to extricate himself from the watery morass through education and hard work only to face the Bête Noire, the evil spirit of the swamp. In a strange turn of events, he would call upon all that life had taught him, finally returning to his heritage and the swamp to bring resolution to his struggle with the haunting demon that had ravaged his family and wealth.

Author Biography

STEPHEN D. BOYETT was educated in the South and is deeply influenced by the Southern environment that was so much a part of his childhood. His family heritage reaches back to the founding of America and gives strong inspiration to the creation of the fictional characters in this story. "My greatest challenge as a writer was to bring the spirit of these characters to life, to immerse the reader deep into their world, to love them, and at times hate them for what they were, but never forget them."
