Ever since President Donald Grump left the United Colonies of Amnesia to form his empire, Grump loyalist and reporter Max Worth has told everyone in the U.C. how great it must be. On his advice, thousands a month have boarded the Golden Cruises to Grumpland (formerly Greenland). And after ten years, his devotion has paid off - the emperor has invited him for a week of special events.

But no sooner does Max land than he begins to suspect that only Grump's sycophants are living a life of riches. Everyone else lives in terrible poverty, and their misery is partly Max's fault. When Grump's forces shoot down a U.C. military jet and capture the blonde co-pilot, Hillary Delosi, Grump plans to burn her alive at Hillary Fest inside the hundred-foot-tall Wicker Hillary.

Unable to bear all the horror, Max's changing heart becomes apparent and Grump brands him a traitor. With the whole island after him, can Max save himself, Hillary, and maybe even Grump's loyal followers from the lies that have cut them down to nothing like a scythe through wheat?
