The Fifth Corner - Issue No. 3, Fall 2026
The Fall 2026 issue of The Fifth Corner presents dark literary fiction, poetry and commissioned art, edited by Aliona Ciumac.
A black hole appears in a kitchen. There are still classes to teach, bills to pay and a landlord who must not notice. Zachariah Claypole White's "Black Hole Kitchen Blues," winner of the Fall 2026 Dark Fiction Prize, opens the third issue of this independent Canadian literary journal.
The fiction selection continues with "A Hare in the Snare" by Noah Ray Phibbs, "Friendolio" by Paul John Nelson, "A Postmodern Prometheus" by E.J. Braithwaite, "Hua Hua" by Andy An, and "Lucy & the Great Darkness" by U.M. Agoawike.
In CODA, Tom Crump contributes "There Is Only One More Blade at the End of This Knife." The Emerging Voices section introduces Grace Rubio with "Tell Gan-Gan I Said I'm Sorry."
Commissioned artwork by Serpil Odabaşı accompanies the fiction. Working with collage, paint and printmaking, Odabaşı responds to the atmosphere of the stories rather than illustrating their events. An accompanying artist feature examines her approach to materials and the influence of memory and migration on her work.
The issue also includes Afterimage and contributor biographies.
Published in British Columbia, Canada, by The Fifth Corner Literary Society.
