Author Biography

American writer, poet, critic, and editor Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) is renowned for his tales of horror, for creating the first detective story (''The Murders in the Rue Morgue''), and for penning one of the world's most famous poems, ''The Raven.'' Illustrator Harry Clarke (1889-1931) was an Irish artist specializing in book illustration and stained glass work.
