by Thomas Smith (Author)

The U.S. Marine Corps is the world's largest elite military force, enjoying a fearsome reputation and an unmatched battle record. This book is about Marine officer training and focuses on one of its schools called "The Basic School," located in Quantico, Virginia. It's known as "TBS" and is the 2nd school in the progression of making Marine officers. It is a 6-month intense school with over 1500 hours of instruction-the equivalent of 4 years of college in 1/8th the time. Its mission is to create combat leaders, instilling into them the rudiments of war and values such as integrity, honesty, discipline, hard work, selflessness, and professionalism. This book lifts the veil on TBS and shows you how the Marine Corps turns Marine lieutenants into elite combat leaders.

THOMAS SMITH served in the U.S. Marine Corps as Captain and Judge Advocate at Camp Pendleton, California. He is the author of On Marine Culture and has written articles for the Marine Corps Gazette and Michigan Out-of-Doors. He also has authored various legal works for the Michigan Judicial Institute (MJI) and Michigan Supreme Court. He currently lives with his wife and two children in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
