Born out of scandal and political discord, the Avondale Children's Home opened its doors in 1911. The home has operated as a self-sufficient farm, endured the hardships of the great depression and transformed from 'orphanage' to residential center. The history of the home is explored through articles, rare photos and recollections from residents dating back to the 1930's. The Avondale Youth Center, as it is known today, continues to serve children & families in Muskingum County. This look back over 100 years provides a snapshot of both the good and bad of life in the Avondale Children's Home.
