Since more than a decade eco-industrial parks have been regarded as the prototype of eco-industrial development and of so called industrial ecosystems. The co-location of cooperating companies facilitates the integration of material and energy flows, thereby reducing emissions, waste and production costs and, as a result, increasing resource efficiencies.
