The practice of surgery is based solely on anatomical facts, disease attributes, injury categories, physiological truths, and technical knowledge. A surgeon is rigorously trained in a five year residency to operate at any hour of the day and night, to operate tired or rested, to handle any and all emergencies, to remove diseased organs and repair injured ones, to stop bleeding, to restore life, and to always practice the art of surgery in complete compliance with well established mandates of conduct. However, what does a well trained, experienced surgeon do when faced with something unexplainable by any physical law, any medical fact, or any known previous occurrence?
