The high price and environmental safety issues of conventional organic solvents have compelled the pharmaceutical and food industries to develop new processing techniques. Supercritical extraction using liquid carbon dioxide was found to be the one stop solution for addressing environmental challenges in low cost. Fluid state carbon dioxide held at or above its critical temperature and critical pressure, is known as supercritical carbon dioxide.
