John C. Greene (1917--2008) was an influential and renowned historian of science with specialties in American history of science and history of evolutionary thought. A recipient of the History of Science Society's George Sarton Medal in 2002, his publications include The Death of Adam: Evolution and Its Impact on Western Thought (1959) and The Science of Minerals in the Age of Jefferson (1978).
