The underwater site to the east of Qaitbay Fort (1477-1479), which as built on the former site of the Pharos of Alexandria, consists of a mass of ancient blocks covering an area of 115 m N/S by 140 m E/W, at a depth of 5 to 8 m. Among the 4081 registered blocks, 35 pharaonic blocks, most of which are inscribed, are published in this catalogue. 19 of them are now on display at the archaeological site of Kom el-Dikka. These include fragments of 2 pairs of obelisks of Sethos I, architectural remains such as papyrus-bundle columns and architraves, and sphinxes, the oldest of which is inscribed with the name of Sesostris III and the most recent with the name of Psamtik II.
