Twelve-year-old Digger McGillicutty ventures to O'Toole's Orchard on St. Patrick's Day to visit a gnome named Patrick O'Toole, but he soon discovers that his trip is not just fun and games. Challenged with the task of judging a debate between the two famous Monkey Trial lawyers, the young lad is stumped until an unexpected ally rallies to his rescue.

Author Biography

Chandler McEwan begin_of_the_skype_highlighting end_of_the_skype_highlighting was born in Connecticut in 1950 and moved with his family to Kentucky seven years later. Chandler graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1974 and is married with two children. Although O'Toole's Orchard is obviously a light-hearted fantasy intended to entertain and be gently thought provoking, the story does reflect the author's very real struggle as a youth to resolve the conflicting ideologies of Christianity and Evolution. The outlook on life shared by the gnome near the end of the story represents a point of view also embraced by the writer.
