When Michael was born, everyone in his family gave him a nickname; "Dude," "Shorty Fats," "Precious, ' "Sunny," and many more. It wasn't until Michael started kindergarten, and his teacher called him by his "real" name. He was so excited to tell his mom, 'Somebody knows my name!" Mom explains to Michael, "I know your name. I call you "Sunny" because you are special to me, and that's my nickname just for you. Everybody knows your name." Mom also gives Michael a little history of some very famous people who have nicknames, but everybody knows their name. The author wants parents to know it's great to give your children nicknames, but please make sure they know their "real" names.
