In 1451, Isotta Nogarola took up her pen in defense of Eve. For over a thousand years, writers from Tertullian to Boccaccio had used Eve to justify women's inferior status. Nogarola's Defense of Eve (traditionally titled De Pari aut Impari Evae atque Adae Peccato) is a text of fundamental importance for the history of gender in Europe.
