Veterinarian Jim Briggs promised his dying mother he would care for Portland, Oregon's strays-humans and dogs-as a community service.

With his inheritance and a long list of wealthy clients supporting his humanitarian mission, he launched Have Paws-Will Travel, a mobile canine care service.
