Titanium is widely regarded as a suitable material for endodontic implants due to its excellent biocompatibility and resistance to corrosion. Unlike metals such as stainless steel or Vitallium, titanium forms a passive oxide layer (Ti₂O₃, TiO₂) that protects it from tissue fluid-induced corrosion. This makes it less toxic and more stable in biological environments. Studies in animals and humans have shown that titanium implants are well tolerated, with bone integrating into porous or threaded surfaces, enhancing stability. In contrast, materials like Vitallium may corrode, trigger inflammatory responses, or even damage adjacent anatomical structures. Thus, titanium's mechanical and biological properties make it ideal for long-term dental implant success.
