First published in 1900, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is the story of Dorothy, a young girl from Kansas, and her dog Toto, who are swept away by a powerful tornado to the magical land of Oz. Her house lands on the Wicked Witch of the East, freeing the Munchkin people from her rule, and Dorothy is set on her way down the Yellow Brick Road toward the Emerald City. Along the journey she is joined by three unforgettable companions -- a Scarecrow seeking a brain, a Tin Woodman longing for a heart, and a Cowardly Lion in search of courage. Together they face the dangers set against them by the Wicked Witch of the West, only to discover that the qualities they were searching for had been within them all along. At its heart, the novel is a timeless story about inner strength, friendship, and the meaning of home.

Author Biography

Giselfust is the artistic name of Gisela Navarro Fuster, a Barcelona-born illustrator (1977) with a degree in Fine Arts and a postgraduate specialisation in illustration from EINA. Her work explores emotional states through a dreamlike, surrealist aesthetic, and she combines personal projects with editorial illustration for major Spanish publishers including Editorial Alma, Penguin Random House, Editorial Planeta, and Norma Editorial. She has illustrated more than thirty titles, among them Ana de Tejas Verdes, Mujercitas, and El maravilloso Mago de Oz. Her artistic name was born during her teenage years, when she and friends created pen names using their mothers' surnames as an act of feminist reclamation. Lyman Frank Baum (1856- 1919) was an American author born in Chittenango, New York. Before turning to writing, he led an extraordinarily varied life -- raising fancy poultry, managing an opera house, running a department store, and editing a newspaper. In 1900 he published The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, which became an immediate sensation and the first American fantasy to enjoy such widespread success upon publication. The book's success prompted him to write thirteen additional Oz books. Over his lifetime he produced fifty-five novels, more than eighty short stories, and over two hundred poems. He died on May 6, 1919, and is buried at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California.
