Vega is ten years old and lives in Giraffön with Dad. Vega's life is quite unusual: he sees things that no one else sees, including imaginary animals. A grizzly bear with foamy shampoo in his fur lives in the bathroom, and on the school path he meets both the asphalt beaver Atle and the zebra Zacharias. Vega has never met his mother, and when he asks Dad and Grandpa Hektor questions, they answer with riddles. While Dad has a girlfriend, Vega gets an unexpected pen pal and embarks on an adventure to find his mother. This book is a magical realism about the longing for a family and to be seen and loved.

Author Biography

Sofia Chanfreau was born in Helsinki in 1986, grew up on Å land and settled in Malmö in Sweden. She attended Fö rfattarskolan in Lund in 2010-2012, but then became focused on music and sound technology studies, at the Academy of Music in Malmö and at the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. Nowadays, she works at a production company and writes both scripts and music on a daily basis, as well as sound-laying and mixing audio tours. However, her fiction writing is present all the time. Amanda is a tattoo artist and illustrator. She is educated in visual art, textile art and tattooing in Sweden. She was born in Helsinki, grew up on Å land and lives in Malmö . She was awarded the Finlandia prize in children's and youth literature 2022 for Giraffe's Heart is Unusually Large and Nominated for the Runeberg Junior Prize and the Nordic Council's Children's and Young People's Literature Prize 2023.
