Author Biography

Joe Stockdale a Purdue University professor and artistic director for its AEA and League of Resident Theatre Company (1964-1970) is Professor and Dean emeritus, Theatre & Film, School of the Arts, SUNY, Purchase, N.Y. As such, he helped launch the careers of hundreds of students who became successful in the various worlds of entertainment. His memoir, Stages, was published in 2013, and he is author of a novel, Taking Tennessee to Hart, a theatre history The Man in the Spangled Pants, and co-author of The Architecture of Drama. He has written a half dozen produced plays, was a contributing editor for TheaterWeek magazine, wrote articles for Playbill, Equity News, and a best-of-the-year short story for Argosy magazine. He and his wife Robin, married for 67 years, live in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and are blessed with five wonderful kids, six grandsons, five great granddaughters, and one brand new great grandson.
