Author Biography

As a child Joyce P. Smith lived on a farm in Tempe, Arizona, amidst cotton and corn fields; and Jackrabbits, scorpions, rattlesnakes, saguaro and cholla cacti (called jumping cactus) were common occurrences. Joyce grew up in a family that did things together. Her dad made homemade ice cream every Sunday and at every family and friends gathering - it was THE best. Her dad and mom took the family picnicking; on trips to the lake; we played in the dry creek-beds (this is where Joyce discovered why they call Cholla cactus, jumping cactus); and she discovered the beauties of Arizona while hunting and camping regularly. Joyce and her husband have seven children and twenty-three grandchildren to date. She enjoys ice cream, family gatherings, creating stories, oil painting, swimming and especially she still loves camping - and every camping trip she goes on she takes Albert, her stuffed bear with her.
