In 1905 Roderick Random to a trip to the Chilocco Indian School after seeing the Indian School building at the St. Louis World's Fair. The Chilocco Indian School was authorized by the U.S. Congress in 1882, and was located in North-Central Oklahoma. The school was in operation from 1884 to 1980. Chilocco Indian School provided vocational training for Native Americans.
