In 2021, the Institute for Economics & Peace (IEP) listed Japan at number 9 among 172 independent states and territories

in the annually published Global Peace Index (GPI). Considering the low rate of homicide, armed robbery, or assault, this ranking might be reasonable. But what if we examine suicide rates? Taking into account there were 21,000 reported deaths it is clear that, in terms of mental health, Japan should not be in the top 10. What does this mean for Blacks who live in Japan?
