In the Middle Ages, he was a figure of legend, pseudohistory (false history), and romance, and in modern times the hero of countless novels. 'Then Arthur Fought' is something new: a quasi-history (as-if-it-were history) of Arthur - a plausible Medieval-style chronicle compatible with known history. Drawing upon hundreds of ancient and medieval texts, and his own inventions, Wiseman has forged a unique conception of Arthur and his times. It spans almost three centuries, from the decline of Roman Britain to the English conquest of the Britons' last lowland territories. And it ranges over much of Europe - the fortunes of love and (more often) war take Arthur or his compatriots to Gaul, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Byzantium. 'Then Arthur Fought' is carefully annotated and is illustrated by 20 maps. It will appeal to anyone interested in dark-age history and legends, or in new frameworks for Arthurian fiction.

Number of Pages: 420

Dimensions: 0.86 x 8.27 x 5.83 IN

Publication Date: October 03, 2015

https://handfulofbooks.com/products/then-arthur-fought-b-w-the-matter-of-britain-378-634-a-d-paperback
