She later received a B.A. Degree in Communication Arts from Johnson C. Smith University in 1986. Fern matriculated at Trinity University in Washington, D.C. in 2001-02 and later obtained her teacher license while working as a special educator in D.C. In 2016, she earned a graduate degree in teaching\/special education from North Central University.\u003c\/p\u003e \u003cp\u003eFern is a mother of two and a grandmother.
