This interaction can degrade the surface phase over time, may result in loss of material from its surface. Environmental degradation of the surface phase over time can be caused by wear, corrosion, creep, fatigue loads, shear loads, tensile loads, cutting forces or when exposed to higher temperature. Major types of wear include abrasion, friction, erosion and corrosion.
