Cora, an emotionally fragile woman discovers that many of her truths from childhood to adulthood were really lies, particularly regarding Sonnyboy, an extremely dark complected childhood neighbor who was tormented incessantly. Cora revisits her past before the 1960s when black was not called 'beautiful' and collective black pride had not yet emerged. 2. 'MURPHY AIN'T NEVER LIED, ' Murphy is flawless in Shay's eyes. This has been called 'an ultimate love story' by past readers. 'Murphy Ain't Never Lied, ' highlights social and political strata as it exposes the follies of the heart and illustrates how lovers and Gods can be essentially the same.
