The delivery of such care is becoming more complex, placing undue strain on primary care clinicians and exacerbating existing workforce shortages.\u003c\/p\u003e \u003cp\u003eA National Academies committee recently examined the inputs and functions needed for interprofessional teams to successfully and sustainably deliver high-quality primary care. The committee concluded the nation must support the primary care workforce through appropriate and supportive payment; hold payers, states, and health systems accountable in ensuring that such payment reaches primary care practices; and sufficiently train an interprofessional workforce.
