She graduated from Kyoto University's faculty of letters. For nearly a decade Aiko was a director for NHK, Japan's premier TV channel. She moved to work in New York City where she also studied graphic design at NYU. In New York, she married a third-generation Japanese-Mexican, a grandson of Mitsuko Kasuga.
