Estos vehiculos los podremos considerar derivados de turismo (denominacion genuinamente espanyola inexistente en otros paises de nuestro entorno y que proviene de la apelacion derivados de motocicleta que se aplico a sus ancestros los motocarros) o camionetas cerradas siempre que esten ensamblados sobre un chasis de un vehiculo de turismo, que conserven la parte delantera de este (incluyendo la cabina y el puesto de conduccion) y que se les haya modificado la parte trasera para habilitarla como espacio de carga. Para los modelos comercializados con posterioridad a 1969 la altura minima habia de ser de 180 centimetros de modo que pudieran acogerse a la exencion del impuesto de lujo (hoy en dia, del impuesto especial de matriculacion). En esta categoria incluimos asimismo la gran mayoria de los denominados pick-up vans o camionetas abiertas, que no son otra cosa que una variante de aquellos con el espacio de carga descubierto.La segunda categoria esta constituida por los furgones medios, es decir vehiculos que no deben sobrepasar 1.400 kg de carga util o 9.000 litros de capacidad. Se pueden presentar como chasis-cabina o completamente carrozados. Esta ultima configuracion, que es la mas comun, normalmente admite tambien una version de carga combinada con una o incluso dos banquetas para pasajeros. De este modo se obtienen unas versiones que son corrientemente denominadas combi simplex y combi duplex respectivamente. Por ultimo senyalaremos los furgones pesados. Generalmente derivan de furgones medios de propulsion trasera a los que se ha incrementado la carga util, la capacidad o ambas. Para ello generalmente se hacen necesarias ciertas modificaciones tecnicas como serian el alargamiento del chasis, la incorporacion de ruedas gemelas en el eje posterior o el reforzamiento de la suspension. En esta categoria incluiremos igualmente los camiones ligeros, que son en realidad el resultado de una evolucion a la baja de camiones medios de modo que puedan beneficiarse de las ventajas arriba apuntadas de las que gozan los vehiculos industriales livianos.
